Product Description

Due to global warming Maldives’s geography suffers from a deadly combination of high surface erosion and rising sea levels. The Maldives is one of the places on earth mainly vulnerable to the effects of climate change as 80% of the total land mass of the islands is  only a meter above and i sea level. Like several other South Asian and Oceanic archipelagos the Maldives is also facing the threat of sinking. Maldives is situated on only 2.3 to 1.5 meters above sea level. The people of the Maldives are waiting to be rescued by the world from being sink that may soon be lapping at their doorsteps. Maldives a Paradise On earth is spread over 90,000 square kilometers. The beautiful Maldives is a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world for many years. President Mohamed Nasheed unveiled a plan in March 2009 to make his country carbon-neutral within a decade. The nation has its sights to increase the share of renewable energy sources and become carbon neutral by 2020.

In response to this Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership is trying to promote the use of local renewable energy sources and reduce CO2 emissions by reducing fossil fuel consumption. A not-for-profit organization “The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership” whose members are the world’s leading electricity companies, with in line to Asian Development Bank’s Asia Solar Energy Initiative (ASEI), aims to generate around 3,000 megawatts of solar power over the next three years in Maldives, the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership has also planned to start a solar energy and an ice making machine on Kaafu Dhiffushi Island in the Maldives. The project will not only replace the Diesel Generator expensive use it will also enable the efficient use of solar energy for an ice-making machine that will help the island inhabitants preserve fish for sale, the main economic activity in Dhiffushi.

Not only this according to Minivan News “FIRST FOR INDEPENDENT NEWS IN THE MALDIVES” Renewable Energy Maldives (REM) is working with approximately 25 islands, various resorts nationwide, and international actors to develop renewable energy systems and improve energy efficiency. Since early 2012, the Maldivian government has overseen the initial stages of a few new renewable energy projects. The Ministry of Environment in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance has issued a prequalification application for the “Solar Maldives Programme.” This project aims to “design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer grid-tied solar photovoltaic systems for integration with diesel generators on 15 islands” in the south, north, and upper north provinces.

Part of all efforts to make the Maldives a solar power stronghold and hundreds of thousands of square meters of rooftop solar panels will help provide clean energy to the Maldives 370,000 inhabitants. There is a need to understand Energy Matters to boost the presence of solar power in the Maldives’ energy mix.Energy Matters has performed thousands of solar power installations in Australia, including at large holiday resorts, and looks forward to bringing its solar power expertise to the people of the Maldives.
